How to buy “Demachi Futaba no Mame-mochi”, the most popular souvenir of Kyoto, without standing in line.

It is no exaggeration to say that the “Demachi Futaba” bean cake is the number one souvenir and specialty of Kyoto that can be easily purchased.

It is a very popular souvenir that always comes up when you ask “Is there any good souvenir?

The main store was established in 1899 and is about an 8-minute walk from Demachiyanagi Station on the Eizan Railway.

It is located in a nice arcade in the Demachi shopping street.

No matter when you go there, there is always a line.

People in Kyoto hate waiting in line, or they say, “Is it really necessary to wait in line for such a thing? and “Is this really worth waiting in line for?

when they see tourists standing in line for a store that is new to the city, they laugh at them,

But this store’s bean cake is something else!

Even the people of Kyoto are standing in line, as if they have no choice.

The sweet red bean paste made from azuki beans grown in Tokachi, Hokkaido, is not too sweet, and is perfectly balanced with the salty rice cake.

The texture of the peas is also effective. This is a classic Japanese confectionary souvenir of Kyoto that everyone can enjoy.

But anyway, it is difficult to get to Demachi Futaba.

The best way to get there from Kyoto station would be by car, but it takes about 15 minutes, and parking is a hassle.

Even if you take the Keihan Electric Railway to Demachiyanagi Station, there is no Keihan Electric Railway service from Kyoto Station.

If you want to go by train, get off at Shijo Station on the Karasuma Line from Kyoto Station,

It would take about 10 minutes on foot to get off at Shijo Station on the Karasuma Line from Kyoto Station, and then about 7 minutes to transfer to Gion-Shijo Station on the Keihan Line.

What a hassle!

Therefore, we recommend the “Famous Confectionery Hyakusen” in B1 of the Kyoto Takashimaya Department Store, which is directly connected to Kawaramachi Station.

You will not have to wait in line here.

And the location is a 0-minute walk from Kawaramachi Station.

You can buy them while sightseeing since it is in the middle of downtown.

The “Demachi Futaba” Mame-mochi (bean cake), 175 yen, was placed in a prominent spot next to the cash register!

Other than Mamemochi, you can also buy souvenirs from Kyoto’s famous and long-established stores all at once.

The staff told us to enjoy it by the end of the day, as it is a genuine fresh pastry.

The rarity of this product is also good.

The ingredients are simple is best: glutinous rice, peas, sugar, azuki beans, and salt.

There are no preservatives!

“Mame-mochi” is a classic Kyoto souvenir, with its eye-catching, chunky peas.

The taste is simply delicious.

The more you try it, the more you will like it.

By the way, you can also buy it at Isetan Kyoto B1, which is directly connected to Kyoto Station.

This place is a 5-minute walk from Kyoto Station, which is extremely convenient.

It is the perfect place for a last hurrah after a day of sightseeing in Kyoto.

However, this place tends to be sold out.

In fact, the two times I went there, it was “sold out.

Therefore, I would recommend (but still cannot guarantee) “Takashimaya” for a sense of certainty.

Also, both Takashimaya and Isetan have a fixed time for the arrival of Mamemochi from “Demachi Futaba”,

It is best to check the time.

Enjoy the taste of Kyoto.
