Indian Restaurant TADKA] Authentic curry, or rather Indian meals, in Kyoto.
When I asked my curry-loving friend who lives in Kyoto, “Where is the best curry restaurant in Kyoto?
He said “Yamashokuon” and this restaurant, “TADKA Tadka Indian Restaurant”.
If he said so, there must be no doubt about it, so I went there.
3 minutes walk from Karasuma-Oike station. Yes, it’s nice to be near a station.
Actually, Kyoto, surprisingly, has many famous curry restaurants.
There are many curry shops that I would like to visit, such as “Forest Restaurant” and “Spice Chamber” that are often mentioned.
Among them, curry that is mixed with other curry dishes is becoming more and more common these days.
It is an authentic type of curry that is not really a curry anymore, but a South Indian set meal style called Indian Meals.
This is really popular now. It’s coming on fast and furious.
The other day on “Another Sky,” actor Kosuke Suzuki went to South India to eat Meals,
It’s obvious that curry lovers are paying attention to it.
I am also interested in “Cochin Nivas” in Shinjuku, which Mr. Suzuki recommended.
But why is it so popular again?
The reason is that it is healthy. Not quite vegan, but very veggie-like.
The owner of this restaurant always goes to India for training, so there is a sense of direct import of Indian cuisine.
The restaurant is long and narrow, and the simple interior has a very local Indian atmosphere.
The concrete walls are a replica of an Indian diner.
Let’s have lunch…
Veggie Meal: 950 yen
Non-Veggie Meal 1150yen
Special Meal 1450yen
Hot chai 350 yen
I’m interested in the special meal, but it’s a bit expensive for a businessman’s lunch.
So I choose the Veggie Meal without hesitation!
Yes, this is Veggie Meal.
What the heck, it looks like a so-called curry. I was relieved.
On the wall of the restaurant, there is a sign that says, “How to enjoy Meals”.
Meals are made with a balance of flavors (sour, spicy, sweet, salty, bitter, astringent) and density (soupy or not soupy),
Mix it with rice little by little, enjoy the changes as you eat it.
The final point is not to mix all the dishes together and eat them,
Enjoy your favorite taste and way of eating (story)!”
That’s what he said. Hmmm…it already looks very deep.
Two kinds of curry, yogurt, vegetable side dish, rice, and papad.
Papad is a kind of rice cracker with a thinner version of naan on top.
I guess it’s like an Indian delicacy.
It is delicious, not only spicy but also sour.
So I ended up mixing it up.
This yogurt-like sourness matches the spiciness and is delicious!
The vegetables are also delicious, like an Indian-style vegetable dish. The complex flavors are all in one, and it’s wonderful.
I wonder if curry in Indian cuisine is like soy sauce in Japan.
Some Westerners say, “Japanese food tastes like soy sauce.
Curry is just the base flavor of such dishes,
I guess there are various Indian dishes.
But, from a Japanese point of view, I think that everything tastes like butter, even Western food.
