Too secluded! Bar Oil, a hidden bar on top of a building in Kyoto
It is a hole-in-the-wall bar that almost seems to have no intention of doing business.
But it is stylish. And it is a real hole-in-the-wall. It is not listed in any Kyoto guide book.
The place is located in Fuyacho Rokkaku. It is about an 8-minute walk from Kyoto Shiyakusho Mae station.
It is close to Kawaramachi, but a bit far from the downtown area.
The building we were looking for was a really small building that looked like it might have an office or something.
Still, when you take the elevator up to the top floor, you will find that it has a somewhat stylish atmosphere.
And it is spacious! What a bar on an entire floor of a building!
Tenant fee looks expensive. It looks like it’s not worth the cost at all.
This space has such a large number of people. Or rather, there were about 5 people who seemed to be regulars.
And it’s on one floor. Does this look like a hobby of the owner of the building?
Because there are too many unoccupied spaces (rooms?). Too many people.
There are no people. Too much space. Furniture and chalets.
Big amps, vintage chairs, big wood tables, etc,
The interior is decorated with a masculine American culture and a focus on music.
The interior is a main room with a bar counter, a long and narrow room, sofa seating, table seating, and terrace seating, as if the penthouse were a bar as it is.
You will feel like a Hollywood celebrity.
The terrace is large. The restaurant is no longer visited by most of the customers.
They leave it alone. I appreciate that.
Also, the music inside the restaurant is quite loud.
So, I ran away to the terrace.
I mean, there are no people on the terrace at all.
I wonder if it’ll be okay. I wonder if they will be able to make it.
I hope the owner won’t come to his senses and say, “It won’t make any money, so what’s the point?
As you may have already noticed, it is very dark inside.
Well, it’s a bar. And that’s okay.
It is more like a Tokyo-style bar in the Nakameguro or Daikanyama style than a Kyoto-style bar, so tourists are not likely to come here.
That is why it has a good hole-in-the-wall feel to it.
If you are a Kyoto connoisseur who has been to Kyoto many times, this is a good place to try something different.
