Homemade pasta, organic vegetables, parking available! The Italian restaurant ‘Kitayama Lantern’ has the three best of the three worlds.
Although the blog claims to be about sightseeing in Kyoto, I would like to introduce Kitayama Lantern from a completely local Kyoto perspective.
It’s about a seven-minute walk from Kitayama Station on the Karasuma Line. It’s a quick, enjoyable seven-minute walk along the tree-lined streets of Kitayama.
And from a local’s point of view, it’s nice that they have a parking lot!
It’s not easy to find a shop in Kyoto that has a parking lot.
If it’s a restaurant with a tourist feel, coin-operated parking is no problem, but for a restaurant that I want to use on a daily basis, I want a parking lot.
Sunday evening. I didn’t go anywhere much on Saturday and Sunday, I felt sorry for myself,
I wanted to make the weekend a little more colourful, so I decided to eat out for dinner.
But I’ve got another week of work tomorrow, and I don’t want to go out that far.
The Kitayama Lanterns is the perfect place to fill that selfish feeling.
It’s a 10-minute drive from home. You can almost dress at home. The shop is a bit pretentious, but it’s in the neighbourhood, so I’ll take it as an option.
The interior of the restaurant is also first of all stylish.
Something like a house near the sea in Europe.
Woody walls with white paint. But the paint job is a bit messy. It’s natural and stylish.
There are many shops like that in Kitayama. It’s a bit like Daikanyama fashion.
Now, let’s start dinner.
First of all, prosciutto, prosciutto. Mmm, I want to drink beer. but I have to drive..
Assorted starters.
Potato salad with mustard, pickles with vinegar,
Olive-oiled cured ham, etc. A dazzling world of antipasti.
I want a glass of white wine.
When it comes to homemade pasta, carbonara is the way to go (personally)!
Sticky noodles and thick carbonara sauce go together.
The impact is that your mouth is at once dominated by cheese, eggs and cream.
Oh, I forgot to order a raw vegetable salad, even though the restaurant claims to serve organic vegetables…
Well, that’s enough. I ate quite a lot of vegetables with the starter.
Pasta with blue cheese, which was excellent. Gorgonzola cheese.
As always, blue cheese has a fascinating aroma.
When I like this kind of thing, I think I’ve grown up.
Truffles are good, but blue cheese is no slouch either.
And the homemade pasta goes well with it!
The food is absolutely fine.
It’s a bit of a walk from the station and there’s not much special about it.
I guess that’s why it’s not a famous restaurant.
As a local, that’s fine! I don’t want it to become too popular.
I’m happy with the way it is!
