Kanken Kanji Museum & Library] Surprisingly fun theme park in the middle of Gion, Kyoto.
The Kankan Kanji Museum and Library is located in Gion, Kyoto, right next to Yasaka Shrine.
The location is just so prestigious that it can be used as a meeting place.
So, I had never been to this facility, although I had seen it many times.
I had never been there before, because it seemed like an uninteresting place to study Kanji characters.
However, one Sunday, while waiting at a popular café, I wandered in. I wandered in while waiting at a popular café,
In addition to the usual permanent exhibits, there was also an exhibition entitled “Solve the Mystery and Get the Treasure! Treasure Island Adventure of Kanji Characters”.
Treasure Island Adventure of Kanji characters”.
My elementary school child is sensitive to the key words “riddle solving,” “treasure,” and “great adventure,
He responded immediately! We decided to go.
But when I came to the entrance, I remembered another reason why I was hesitant to enter this facility.
The admission fee was too expensive! 800 yen per adult. For two adults, it’s 1,600 yen.
Is it really that interesting?
From the outside looking in, I could see a “Kanji History Chart” and it didn’t look very interesting to me.
But my child was very motivated, and I thought it would be a good way to learn kanji, so we decided to enter.
Then, at the reception desk, I was told something I didn’t expect.
Since you have an elementary school student, you can get a discount of 300 yen per adult for accompanying your child.
What? Seriously! Tell me that as soon as possible!
I thought it would be 1,900 yen for two adults and one child, but it was only 1,300 yen.
You should tell this to a bigger audience.
It’s a totally different feeling to be able to play for only a little more than 1,000 yen than it is to spend nearly 2,000 yen.
Even if it’s a little boring, it’s a good way to kill some time.
And when I went inside, I knew I was in the right place…the Kanji Chronology.
I almost didn’t read this one, lol.
Movie of the occurrence of kanji. This is also not interesting at all lol.
This corner introduces hieroglyphs.
When you hold up your hand, the hieroglyphs start to move.
This is not at all interesting, even though it uses high technology.
There is also the “Kanji of the Year” exhibition that is held every year at Kiyomizu-dera Temple.
This is also typical of Kyoto, but I wonder if people are that interested in it. I guess so.
Also, every year when I see this news, I think that the Kanji that represents the year is very contrived.
Then what was interesting was this!
You stamp your name with the original hiragana and katakana kanji stamps.
This was surprisingly interesting!
Kids are so excited to stamp it,
Adults are amused to see their names formed with unexpected kanji characters.
What’s with this name? I’m sure you’ll be surprised.
If possible, it would have been more fun to have a stamp in cursive variant of the kanji (the unreadable characters written on the curtain of a buckwheat noodle shop).
If there was also a cursive type stamp of variant kana (those unreadable characters written on the curtains of soba shops), it would have been more fun.
Then I would be able to read those characters and it would be fun.
It would be fun to write my name in those characters and know what kind of kanji it is.
There are other interesting exhibits.
Here is an amazing set of pencils ranging from 10B to 10H.
Wooden letters are also exhibited. Of course, it is a replica.
Watanabe-san’s list of “nabe” characters lol.
This is a bit interesting.
Various nabe-sans use slightly different “辺” and Mr. Watanabes are not at all coherent lol.
